Meet Award-Winning Pelargonium Grower

Meet Brian Boyes and discover his role as a curator of a renowned collection of Pelargoniums.

Originally the head tractor driver at H.A. Simpson & Son in Seamer, North Yorkshire, Brian Boyes found a new passion in retirement—growing plants. He initially focused on fuchsias, enjoying great success until his efforts were thwarted by capsid bugs. A friend and fellow pelargonium grower, Roger Burnett, introduced Brian to the world of pelargoniums. After witnessing how well they thrived under the right conditions, Brian quickly developed a deep passion for growing these vibrant plants.

Discovering the Keder Advantage

It was Roger who introduced Brian to the Keder greenhouse. Pelargoniums flourished in the controlled environment the Keder provided, prompting Brian to install one of his own. The results were so impressive that Brian is now expanding his Keder greenhouse to accommodate more plants.

Brian and Roger’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Their pelargoniums have won Best Society and Best Overall Stand at the renowned Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, showcasing their dedication and expertise.

A Legacy of Pelargonium Preservation

Brian’s enthusiasm has also made him a key figure in preserving the heritage of pelargoniums. Over the years, he sourced seeds from Fibrex Nurseries in Worcestershire, a name synonymous with pelargonium excellence. When Fibrex sought to pass on parts of its famous pelargonium collection, Brian stepped up to take on the responsibility.

Fibrex’s connection to Keder Greenhouses is more than coincidental. A long-time neighbour of Keder, Fibrex installed its own Keder greenhouse in 2017, highlighting the brand’s reputation for creating optimal growing environments.

Why Keder Greenhouses Are Ideal for Pelargoniums

Reflecting on his choice of greenhouse, Brian shared:

“I’ve got a glasshouse that I now only use for propagation. I’m extending the Keder because it creates the best growing conditions. It maintains an ideal temperature for growing award-winning pelargoniums, whereas glass would scorch them. What’s more, it’s really sturdy and easy to install.”

Brian’s experience underscores why Keder Greenhouses are trusted by award-winning growers and plant enthusiasts alike.
