Moving home is topical for a member of the Keder team at the moment, Cathy has written a few thoughts and a poem about Moving Home with a Keder.

Moving home can be a whirlwind of cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and logistical headaches - but for gardeners, there's often an extra layer of emotion. What about the garden you've nurtured? The plants you’ve coaxed into bloom. The greenhouse that’s become your second home?

If you’re a proud owner of a Keder Greenhouse, you’ll be pleased to know that you don’t have to leave it behind. A Keder has the ability to move with you. That’s right - your greenhouse can come along for the ride.

Taking Keder with You

Unlike traditional glass greenhouses, Keder structures are designed with durability and flexibility in mind. The modular design allows for dismantling, transportation, and reassembly - all without compromising the structure’s strength or longevity.

When you're preparing for a move:

  • Plan ahead - Schedule a good weather window for taking the greenhouse down.

  • Label parts - This will make reassembly smoother than your average IKEA flat pack.

  • Check the new site - Make sure the ground is level and that there’s good sun exposure.

It’s a bit like packing up a beloved tent - if your tent was storm-proof, UV-resistant, and had helped you grow dozens of tomatoes.

Hidden Treasures Beneath the Soil

One unexpected delight during a garden move is what you uncover. As you lift pots, dig up roots, and clear out beds, you may stumble upon some hidden gems.

  • Forgotten bulbs sprouting new shoots - nature’s way of saying, “Hello again.”

  • Seeds that self-sowed, now small surprises ready for potting up and taking with you.

  • Garden ornaments long covered by ivy or soil - those little toadstools and gnomes that bring a smile.

  • Sentimental plants - a rose gifted from a friend, a cutting from a grandparent’s garden, a lavender bush buzzing with memories or for me, a rather special olive tree that has extra special sentimental value.

We even heard from one Keder owner who found a vintage packet of seeds tucked behind a raised bed. They planted them at their new home and were rewarded with a vibrant mix of poppies and sweet peas - an unintentional but beautiful time capsule.

Re-rooting in a New Space

Once you’ve arrived and your Keder Greenhouse is back up, you’ll likely feel a strong sense of familiarity. The frame, the light, the quiet space inside - it’s your constant in the chaos of moving.

Settle in slowly:

  • Repot any travel-weary plants.

  • Give yourself time to get to know the light and soil in your new spot.

  • Consider planting a new “moving garden” bed to mark the beginning of your next chapter.

And don’t forget - every gardener finds joy in starting over. While it’s hard to say goodbye to an old space, there’s something invigorating about blank soil and new possibilities.

Cat on moving day

Poem - Moving Day Mayhem

We packed our lives in boxes neat

Except for stuff beneath the seat.

The cat’s gone mad, the dog looks stressed,

And I'm looking forward to a well earned rest.

The kettle’s packed, the mugs are gone,

I stifle back an early yawn

The movers said, “We’ll be just fine,”

Then dropped the couch at half-past nine.

“Label things,” I said with flair

Now every box says “Stuff” or “Spare.”

A sock turned up in the fruit bowl,

I think I packed my self-control.

A sigh of relief when handed the keys

Soon we’ll be sitting with swollen knees

Light bulbs lost, we sit in gloom,

Tomorrow unpacking will resume.

Moving house with a Keder Greenhouse - Final Thoughts

Moving house doesn’t mean leaving your green-fingered life behind. With a Keder Greenhouse, you can literally pack up your garden sanctuary and take it with you. And in the process, you just might find a few forgotten treasures that remind you of where you’ve been - and inspire where you’re going.

Happy moving, and even happier growing.
